New Home Poems
Wishing you always—
Walls for the wind
And a roof for the rain
And tea beside the fire—Laughter to cheer you
And those you love near you—
And all that your heart might desire!
Our home is just a little house but God knows where we live.
A new home!
A rather brilliant escape
from all your junk mail lists!
You pulled it off!
You are so lucky to have found a new home
Your tails must be wagging like a dog finding a bone
The house is crammed full of all sorts of things
and you must feel like your angel found his wings
We hope you will feel happy and so full of love
with brand new plumbing, electrics and roof up above.
A garage and a big garden too for the kiddies to play
So thank your lucky stars forever and a day.
May your home be bright with cheer,
May your cares all disappear,
May contentment come your way,
And may laughter fill your day.
May you have warm words
on a cold evening,
A full moon on a dark night,
And the road downhill
all the way to your door.
Lord, make the door of this house wide enough to receive
all who need love, narrow enough to shut out all will breed
hate; make the threshold smooth enough to be no stumbling
block to children, rugged enough to turn back evil.
Lord, make the door of this house the gateway to your love.
When the boxes are gone
And you've cleaned up the mess
You'll make a home of the house
That was just an address
Jon Bratton c 2006
It don't make a difference how rich ye get t' be'
How much yer chairs and tables cost, how great the luxury;
It ain't home t' ye, though it be the palace of a king,
Until somehow yer soul is sort o' wrapped round everything.
Within the walls there's got t' be some babies born an' then...
Right there ye've got t' bring em up t' women good, an' men;
Home ain't a place that gold can buy or get up in a minute;
Afore it's home there's got t' be a heap o' living in it."
